ANNOUNCEMENTS

We are honoured guests this morning at the Lord’s table.  The Lord will strengthen our faith with the use of the Sacrament.  On this Communion Sunday, we invite our guests to listen carefully as the Form for the Celebration of the Lord’s Supper is read, which explains our understanding of the meaning and significance of the Sacrament.  We believe that those who partake of the sacrament should be in good standing of a Christian Church, should profess Jesus Christ as the Lord and Saviour of their lives, should desire the Sacrament as a means of strengthening their faith, and should do so in accordance with the teaching of 1 Corinthians 11: 23 - 29.

Monday, October 10 we celebrate Thanksgiving.  During the morning worship service, you will have an opportunity to bring forward food items that will be donated to the Food Bank.  The congregation is encouraged to participate in this as well.

A big thank you to those who made pies for the turkey supper.  Your willingness and time is much appreciated.  Also thank you to all those who attended the supper to support the cause of Immanuel Christian Schools.

FOOD BANK: This week, the food bank is in need of Pasta.   Thank You!

Also, a nursery will be available for families with young children

With the combined Reformation Day Service scheduled for 3 PM, October 30 at the Trinity United Reformed Church, the organizing committee is pleased to once again provide you some glimpses into the historical event we know as the Protestant Reformation. The theme of this year's vignettes is "Secondary Players of the Reformation."

MAJOR PLAYERS OF THE REFORMATION ERA

Erasmus  -   Born in 1469 in Rotterdam, Erasmus  became appalled at the ignorance of ordinary and women in the church and in 1503  published a manual on Christian ethics in which he lays out what he calls his “philosophy of Jesus.” Concentrating on God’s plan of salvation, Erasmus emphasizes the work of the Holy Spirit calling believers to practice goodness and love, as opposed to such acts as fasting and going on pilgrimages to incur God’s favour; Luther saw  these so-called “good deeds” as the sort of things that disastrously replaced in the believer’s mind the need for faith in leading one to favour with God. Nonetheless, Erasmus kept at arm’s length from Luther, trying to see the good and bad in both sides of the issues which highlighted the Reformation. Erasmus developed his own notions of reform which included among other things, formal learning of the Bible and a strong emphasis on Christian morality as opposed to formal acts of piety. In this way, he helped prepare the way for the Reformation.

SEARCHING for Bible Study materials that may be on your shelf. Please especially check for DVD material - GRACE BASED PARENTING.  Please return to the library. Thank you!!!

Billets Needed!   The Joyful Noise Choir from Edmonton will be participating in our worship service on Nov. 13. The group of @ 48 children will need lodging for the night of Sat. Nov. 12. They need to be billeted in groups of 3-4. They will bring pillows and sleeping bags,  and will sleep on the floor if necessary. More information about pick up time on Sat. night will follow. If anyone can help out with billeting, please contact Lammie Hummel at 381 4083.

EduDeo (formerly Worldwide Christian Schools) provides opportunity for volunteers who want to make a difference in the name of Jesus. Pearl Nieboer is joining a work group of 13 to help build onto a Christian School in Managua, Nicaragua from Nov.14-26. This is an opportunity to help children attend a Christian school in one of the poorest countries in the world. Team members pay their own flight, food and lodging but need to raise funds for the actual building project. Pearl requests that you will partner with her by a  financial gift through an offering TODAY  and your prayers. Thank you!!  Matthew 19:14
