Pray for the country of Haiti. Thank God for the safety of CRWM missionaries in Haiti, who survived the earthquake. Pray for two Haitian mission workers that are unaccounted for. Some members of two of the missionaries families (wives and children) have flown back to the U.S., while others have stayed to help. The Quisquaeya Christian school in Port-Au-Prince has CRWM partner teachers working there, and is being used as a distribution point for water and food aid. As well, the school’s chapel is a Hospital/surgery centre, the basketball court is a trauma centre, the soccer field is a living area for staff and nationals, and the pre K/K playground is being used by an orphanage. No school is scheduled until an assessment in mid February. Keep the people of Haiti in your prayers. www.crwm.org

CRC Communications: This is a letter to say thank you for the generous way in which Christian Reformed churches and members are responding to the urgent needs of the people of Haiti. Thank you for caring and thank you for sharing.

I am humbled once again by how the church responds in times of crisis. As of this week, donations to the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee for the Haiti disaster response had already topped $2.1 million, and the money is continuing to come in, through church offerings and individual gifts, including almost $700,000 that has been donated online via the "Help Haiti" and CRWRC web sites.

I want to update you briefly on how this money is being used. CRWRC is helping to meet the immediate needs for food, water and shelter by distributing tarps and rice, beans, and pasta to more than 1,100 families in the Port-au-Prince area. It is also working to provide clean water.

As CRWRC continues its short-term response to the needs of earthquake survivors, it is also gearing up for a multi-year reconstruction program. It has identified six villages in Leogane, an area that was hardest-hit by the earthquake, for the next phase of its work. The response will likely include building temporary and permanent housing as well as helping people to re-establishing livelihoods, providing programs for social needs, forming community groups and caring for children. It will also include rebuilding infrastructure such as wells and latrines.

Please continue to remember Haiti in your giving and your prayers. I am grateful that the Christian Reformed Church has been walking alongside the people of Haiti for more than 30 years. We were there before the earthquake and we will continue to be there long after the worlds attention has moved elsewhere, not only ministering to physical needs but reaching out with the gospel through the work of Christian Reformed World Missions and Back to God Ministries International. Thank you for making this possible.

For up-to-date reports on the disaster response efforts and to learn more about the CRCs ministry in Haiti, visit our Help Haitipage at http://www.crcna.org/pages/helphaiti_2010.cfm. We have also created an online discussion forum for churches and individuals who are engaged in ministry in Haiti. You can join that conversation by going to http://network.crcna.org/forums/working-haiti.

May God bless you, Rev. Jerry Dykstra Executive Director, CRCNA

Crossroad Bible Institute Canada (CBI) is a division of The Bible League of Canada. Through a unique Bible study program that matches a prisoner with a mentor, students complete lessons which are marked by their mentor. The mentors regularly write personal letters of encouragement. "Trey" completed CBI Bible studies while incarcerated. Initially he was very skeptical, and harboured a lot of anger against society, but over time, there was a dramatic change in his attitude. He began a small group Bible study, and he was baptized! Trey writes, "Ive come a long way. From not knowing what I want to do in life, to finding God!" Please pray for inmates who struggle with anger, and for mentors who let the love of Jesus shine. The Bible League of Canada, www.bibleleague.ca
